Where Can I Find Mba Grads Online?

Q: Aside from this board, are there anyone where MBA grads hang out? I'm looking particularly for people who've been in the workforce for some years after completing the program.

A:That's true. As an engineer, I've found the corporate MBAs to be "the enemy" during my early career. When I got my MBA, I found that there was some unexpected value in their knowledge pool; the big picture of business operations. Lots of engineers start companies and run them in a manner that appeals to their intellectual pursuits, but this is no way to run a business for profit. While I in know way respect the intellect or insight of the typical MBA, they do carry a necessary piece of the puzzle to running a business appropriately. I recommend taking the MBA program to anyone that is interested in starting your own corporation as did I. The use of an MBA degree as a large corporate advancement tool is appropriate and it works but I find that a mundain use of knowledge. The real challenge is starting your own corporation and making it work. What are the weaknesses of MBAs? Surprisingly mathematics. This should not be the case but its the weakness of the pool of candidates attracted to the degree program. This makes it a very easy degree for anyone versed in proper mathmatics. What are the killer courses of the MBA program (to their typical candidate)? Statistics & Calculus. Statistics is the singlemost powerful tool for the MBA in ways most readers would never grasp so its a shame that most MBAs scrape through with their lowest grade in this class (or bail out of the program due to it). Calculus is considered a starting hurdle requirement though its seldom used with any real depth in the unspecialized course material. Before anyone attack that observation as signs of a poor MBA program, my MBA school was rated in the top ten and it was a 60 credit hour program when I took

it (it switched to 40 cr.hr. afterwards as the MBA standards eroded to attract business). In my opinion the most useful area to specialize in during your MBA program is in Operations Research (read that as hard math applied to business). This is termed, "Decision Science" and other names in various schools. The reason for this recommendation is that the mega-large corporations have finally realized the short-comings of the typical MBA and have hired people from more mathematical based fields. Operations Research (read that as business operations) was once only utilized by Bell Labs and Telecom companies, but 20 years ago the financial industry figured out their value.
