Celexa Weight Gain

As the use of antidepressant like celexa gain momentum in their popularity, it gets clearer and clearer what the real and undocumented side effect can be. One of the common side effects to taking celexa is weight gain. The reason why weight gain is common in antidepressants is because the drug affects your metabolism. If you begin taking celexa, and have gained 20 pounds or so in a rapid manner, you should not be so quick to assume that the two are not connected. All SSRI's inhibit or slow down your metabolism. What they do is, they inhibit specific enzymes in your liver that allow your metabolism to function correctly. If you already had a poor metabolism, it will even be more pronounced after using an antidepressant like celexa. When you are taking celexa, you should not diet in any way that will induce your liver enzymes because you can go into withdrawals from the celexa and not even know it because the diet will lower the effectiveness of the celexa. Knowing these basic facts about celexa can really make a person who is already struggling with their want to rethink using any antidepressants including celexa. Those people who are dieting and taking celexa are going to find that the combination will be very harmful to them in terms of side effects. Any doctor will tell you that rapid weight gain is harmful whether you are taking antidepressants or not. Weight gain that is caused by medications is a sever change to the body and its vital organs like the liver that it directly effects. As you can imagine, when you gain weight rapidly like when you re taking a drug like celexa, you are not just causing harm to your liver; you are also putting stress on your heart, kidneys, and increasing any chances of having major problems with these organs such as strokes and heart attacks. To avoid suffering form any of these complications, it is likely best that you avoid taking the drug because you will never know if you are one of the people who will suffer from this major side effect, and if you already have problems with your heart, kidneys, and liver, you should not even risk it.

I have been taking Lexapro and soon will be switching to Celexa due to insurance issues. Lexapro has the same effect as Celexa on metabolism. Lately, I have been drinking a protein shake, Almased, which boosts metabolism and I am losing weight - finally. I have lost 10 lbs. in about 10 weeks. It is slow but steady progress. I'm sharing this information so others on Celexa can have knowledge that you don't have to gain weight. You just have to find a way to boost your metabolism to counteract the medication. Our metabolism slows down anyway as we age. Everyone needs to make adjustments to stay fit.
