Wedding Bell Blues: The Stress Of Honeymoon Vacation Planning

Heaven knows, the one thing that you need to look forward to after the grueling task of planning and executing a wedding is a relaxing vacation. Unfortunately, the planning of such an event falls into the same high stress package as that of the nuptials, and there are often little chinks in the armor along the way. In order to avoid the pitfalls and reduce the stress, set up a guideline for yourself and things will flow much more smoothly. Whenever possible, it's best to begin the planning stages about six months before the trip takes place. Of course, the first thing that needs to be determined is how much you'll be able to allot to the honeymoon - and it's important to be realistic. That done, it's time to chose your destination and make the necessary reservations. This may all sound easy enough, but the selection process can be quite a teeth-grinder unless you can both agree on the details. If passports are going to be necessary, now's the time to get them. It typically takes a few months in order to receive them once the paperwork is filed, and you certainly don't need that to be the one stumbling block to keep you from enjoying your honeymoon - so don't delay. The every day arrangements, such as pet care - if you own one - and luggage, wardrobe and guidebook selections will need to be next on the list, as well as familiarizing yourself with the airlines' policies for what you may and may not carry on the plane. Even something as simple as having someone come in to water the plants needs to be taken care of in advance - and don't forget to make arrangements for your mail and newspaper. Within the last week prior to the trip, be sure to finalize your plans and pack any luggage that you'll be taking along. Tickets, travelers' checks and currency exchanges should all be put into place at this time, as well, in addition to any other details that are specific to the couple. When you follow a schedule, the stress of planning your honeymoon will be negligible, and the last week or so can be used to focus on the wedding itself. After all, that's what it's really all about, isn't it?
