Tungsten Wedding Rings ?

Q: Since me and my other half will probably be getting married next year I've been looking at rings. Tungsten ones seem pretty cool. http://tinyurl.com/dct7t However, why the carbide and not the metal? Are they shock sensitive? Also, any general opinions?

A:I've considered all of those, but like the WC :-) Mokume is nice, but rather pricey. I rather like the idea of something that will survive all natural heat (inc a cremation) and even an oxyacetylene flame (I think...). Since I have failed to pursuade her that the coolest legal ring would include DU I think W will have to do. Still, there's Zr... http://www.absolutetitanium.com/z-04.html W is a heavy metal poison. Co is allergenic. WC is not a monocrystal. It is a sub-micronized cemented dispersion. Continuously rubbing that into your skin is not necessarily a good idea. The platinum superalloys I posted have the density and value of precious metal plus anmalous physical property aesthetics. You can mount a PlatiGem on the engagement ring to make it complete. Wedlock is wrong! Anyway, tungsten is brittler than the alloy. I could propose some weird substances, but good luck finding anyone who can fabricate them into rings. coesite: space alien quartz, http://images.google.com/images?q=coesite carbon glass: blacker and tougher, http://photos.groups.yahoo.com/group/free_energy/vwp?.dir=/lysdexia&....
