A:In the relatively unlikely event that you injure the finger that a Ti ring is on, and swelling occurs necessitating the cutting off of the ring, Ti rings are next to impossible to cut, and the likelihood of losing the finger is much higher than with a gold or silver ring. To explain what Diane is saying, one of the newsgroup (Gary Helfrich?) who is a volunteer fireman tried cutting a Ti ring with one of their tools and it cut it, no problem. Yes again. Want to place bets on the NEXT time this discussion comes around? Myself I can't wait for someone to start wanting Aermet 100 wedding bands... now THAT will be hard to cut. But I've cut Titanium handlebars with a regular hacksaw so the wedding bands don't pose much trouble, Hmmm, Think I'll dry my dremel cutting disc on a broken Ti saddle rail and see how quick it slices thru. That's fine for a fire department, but I think the point they were making was for the typical hospital emergency room or even the typical field surgery issue of say, injuring yourself while many miles from the nearest fire truck. I rarely pay attention to the Ti ring discussions so I missed what Tool Gary said he used (he did list a tool didn't he?) but myself I'd just use a hacksaw or dremel cutting tool.
