For brides, selecting their wedding dresses is probably the most anticipated moment of the wedding process besides actually saying "I do." Unfortunately, for many brides the process of choosing between so many styles and designs of wedding dresses can actually be quite stressful. Almost every little girl dreams of the wedding gown she will one day wear. The gown she selects must meet every dream and fantasy she ever had and more. When choosing between wedding dresses, take the time to do your research. Peruse bridal magazines and look at the latest fashions in wedding gowns. Many brides today are choosing wedding dresses that feature simpler, clean elegant lines as opposed to the overdone pearl and bead crusted affairs of years ago. Consider attending fashion shows featuring wedding dresses. A fashion show is really great because you can see wedding gowns modeled up close and get an idea of how each one actually looks when worn and body style it best compliments. The type of gown you choose should be in keeping with the style and level of formality of the wedding you have selected. When choosing between wedding dresses, keep in mind there are only four basic styles. 1. Ball gown-Very classic, princess style dress with a full skirt and tight bodice. Ball style wedding dresses complement most figure types and are very good at covering up problem hip areas. 2. A-line- The A-line style wedding dresses also feature tight bodices; however the skirt is not as full as ball style wedding dresses. This style of gown is a good choice for more diminutive brides because it creates an illusion of a taller figure. 3. Empire waist wedding dresses are beautiful selections for brides who want to disguise a less than slender waist. This style of gown has a high gathered waist just under the bust. 4. Sheath style wedding dresses are good selections for those brides who are fortunate enough to have tall, slender figures. This form fitting gown, also known as the mermaid gown, has a form fitting design. These four styles will differ in length, embellishments and fabric; so choosing between those selections can often be the hard part! Once you have found a few designs you like, make yourself a clip file containing pictures of your favorite wedding dresses from magazines. Be sure to take these with you when you start actually shopping. Also make sure to take along a camera. Looking at multitudes of wedding dresses can be very exhausting and it can become very easy to get one dress mixed up with another. Taking a few pictures can help you later when you're trying to make a final decision. Most brides also bring along their mother, future mother-in-law and other close female relatives and friends when it actually comes time to try on wedding dresses. This can be a great bonding event and will almost certainly be an emotional one, but be sure to steer clear of the traps! Family and friends love to offer advice. Accept it graciously, but remember it is your wedding and this should be your dream dress not someone else's!
