Vacation Packages - Look For The Real Discounts
The major benefit of vacation packages is the discounted price. Though there are some issues of convenience, most people say they book a vacation package to save money. Typically, vacation packages should be less than the cost of the individual components - airfare, accommodations and admission fees. There are several things to keep in mind before agreeing to a vacation package. Are the tickets what you would have chosen? There's truth in the adage: A bargain isn't worth anything if it's not what you need. If the package includes wonderfully reduced discounts on airfare, but with a three-hour layover, the cost of that layover may well negate the savings. Spending three hours in an airport terminal with children isn't a great way to begin a vacation. Hotel accommodations should be carefully verified. If the vacation package promises "first class accommodations at an area hotel," find out which hotel. Staying at the Sleep Cheap thirty miles from town could present real problems. The object of the trip might be an adventure, but riding an hour in a taxicab shouldn't be where the adventure begins. Even if the hotel does seem reputable, take time to check out their amenities. An outdoor pool in the winter won't likely be a benefit worth paying extra for, and neither will a single sauna in a 300-room hotel. If there are specific amenities that you are interested in taking advantage of, find out if your vacation package price includes the use of those. If the trip calls for two or more rooms, be sure adjoining rooms are available, especially if children are traveling in the party. An adjoining door can be an important safety consideration. When the vacation package includes discounted tickets to theme parks and shows, be sure of the time limitations on those tickets. A family that discovers they are only allowed admission to the theme park after 7 p.m. might find themselves paying a premium rate for daytime admission to the park, significantly diminishing the value of the vacation package.
