Transportation In The City Of Florence

The city of Florence is home to a plethora of natural and artistic wonders. It is a popular tourist destination for travelers from all over the world. Most people visit to take in the magnificent architecture and the amazing works of art created by Renaissance masters. There are many sights to see in the city, and you can expect to do quite a bit of walking during your time in Florence. However, there are many ways to get around the city, including tour buses, taxis, rental cars and trains. The most popular form of transportation within the city of Florence is the bus system. ATAF and LI-NEA maintain the system. You can buy bus passes and tickets at tobacconist shops or at the ticket booth at Piazza Stazione. If you are interested in traveling outside of Florence, you will need to take one of the SITA busses. They travel to a variety of places in Tuscany, like Siena and Pisa. If you are thinking of hailing a taxi in Florence, you probably should not waste your time. It is extremely hard to hail one as a native, but it is virtually impossible if you do not speak Italian. It is better to call a taxi to pick you up, or to walk to a cabstand to find a driver who will get you to your destination. Though renting a car is an option for travelers, you might think twice about driving if you are not able to read the signs. However, it is surprisingly easy to find parking in Florence. All of the lots are marked by big blue "P" signs. Though you can usually find available parking, it is often fairly expensive, especially if you park in an underground garage. There are places to park on the street, but most travelers feel more comfortable parking in lots instead.
