Do I Need A Car When Accident Attorney Is High In Las Vegas???
Q: We stayed at the Luxor just last October. For the first couple of days we did not have a car and for the next three days we did. So I can give it to you in both scenarios. No car: The Luxor is attatched to the monorail system which will take you to the Mandalay Bay, MGM, New York, and maybe as far as Bally's and the MonteCarlo. The ride is free. I think it covers the whole south end of the strip. Walking is a pain, its hot. crowded, and the hotels look alot closer then they are. Taxis can get spendy. A taxi ride from the Luxor to center strip (ciecus circus) is easily going to run you 12 bucks each way. With a car: The traffic is bad, especially at night around show times. But, if you are just a little creative you can travel the main road paralell to the strip and get almost anywhere you need to be with no hassle at all. Parking is easy. Most casinos have free lots. Plus you are going to want to see downtown and a taxi ride from the Luxor to the Nugget is going to be 30 bucks. You can rent a car for that. We rented our car (a chrysler sebring convertable) in the lobby at the Luxor for 40 bucks a day. My suggestion: spend a day exploring the south end of the strip on foot using the monorail system. Then rent a car for a few days and explore the rest of Vegas. A car is cheaper and much more convenient then a day full of taxi rides. They do have a Bus that runs up and down the strip, but you wouldnt catch me on a slow moving overheated, overcrowded bus even if it is free. Do you have any comments??
A: -I'm glad all you guys have your own opinions, I was just stating mine. In three trips to Las Vegas I have never rented a car and NEVER felt that I needed one. We don't do a lot of rushing around from place to place. Usually, we pick one casino that we want to go to, and hang out there for a while, then maybe check out everything that's within walking distance. I was in a car accident in 1990 and suffered quite a few broken bones, including my heel, knee, and femur. As a result, I have pretty bad tendonitis and arthritis in my knee and ankle. If I walk too much at one time, it gets very painful. Trust me - I have never had problems walking in Las Vegas, so when I say "walking distance," I'm talking walking distance for a gimp like myself, and not an ironman! ;-) In any case, if you want to rent a car in Las Vegas please do. I would definitely advise you to use the valet parking though - it's free, just tip the valet a buck or two when you pick up your car, and that way you don't have to find your way inside from the parking lot/garage/whatever. The last time we went to Las Vegas (April), we relied on taxis almost exclusively. We hit just about every part of the Strip and Downtown and did whatever we felt like doing, whenever we felt like it. We spent less than $20 a day on cab fare. Can you rent a car for less than $20 a day, including the cost of gas? -Need a car? No. My wife and I did our first 3 or 4 multi-day trips without one, and we never took a taxi. City buses, trolleys, and the shuttles/monorails/trams did the job, and I (as primary driver) enjoyed the break. That being said, though, we finally rented one a few trips ago and now we rent one ever since. As someone else mentioned, having a car opens up a lot more opportunities: all of the locals' casinos, scenic nature places (we really enjoyed Red Rock!) and other places to eat. It also gave us the sense of being more in control. We are casino hoppers, as opposed to spending half a day at one place. We still like to walk, but we do things like park downtown, or at CC, or Ex, and use that as a base of operations. I'm a Metro Detroit native, and I have never found that Las Vegas driving is difficult. Annoying, yes, and I wouldn't want to get from NYNY to the Sahara at 8 PM Saturday night via the Strip, but daytime and non-weekend nights aren't that bad. The biggest problem I have is other driving tourists who stop and gawk, forgetting that they are driving a car. Need? No. Nice? Yes, at least for us.
