Have Your Texas Adventure

There is no bigger adventure than heading to the great lone star state of Texas. With 262,017 square miles of territory and 624 miles of shoreline on the Gulf of Mexico, there are several activities that you can enjoy in this state. The rainfall and climate varies greater with the southeast part of Texas being wetter and the northwest being arid. It is approximately 900 miles from one side of Texas to the other at the widest points. You can choose to fly in, go by train, drive your own car, or for the more adventurous type, go rent an RV! With so many stopovers and over 500 parks, this is probably the best option, especially when you have children in tow. You can hike to the Guadalupe River Multi-Use Trail, go beach camping at Padre Island or stay at Brazos Bend, spend a few days in Big Bend National Park, go "Two Miles from Hell" at Palo Duro, or go bird watching at the Bayou. But the best allure brought about by this state besides its open ranges is the idea of the great American cowboy, and nothing shows this more than a real Texas Rodeo. Every season is generally a rodeo season in Texas, where cowboys and cowgirls from all over the nation come in and compete in several categories, exhibiting their wrangling skills and horsemanship. Rodeo enthusiasts attend events almost every month, hitting its peak in the March and February. These rodeo events provide excellent venues to build a wonderful community of people who are genuinely interested in cattle and horses. These events are also venues for business opportunities that may be of interest to those new or just there to watch the sport. And since Rodeos are such big events, you may find yourself watching more than the rodeos itself and staying for the several day events, meeting vendors and enjoying the concerts and fairs that usually go with it. Texas is a great place to visit because of its rich history. With it being so close to the Mexican border, Spanish and American cultures fuse together to offer a wonderful blend that is uniquely Texas. But with Texas being so big, it is probably advisable that you and your family choose an activity and then go on from there. Amtrak has special packages running through the state in most weekends, so it is best that you go check the Amtrak website and book ahead.
