The 6 Years Off Again?
Q: In 1996 I defaulted on my credit card payments and despite numerous letters of threats and being passed to debt recovery agencies, I have NEVER at anytime made contact or acknowledged the debt. After 6 years I am still being pursued by debt recovery agents. Is the debt "written off" after 6 years under the limitation act or can they still pursue it? I haven't received any correspondence from them for a couple of years and thought it had now finished, but it looks like they've passed me on to yet another debt recovery firm as I've received a letter asking to contact them. Now it's gone past the 6 years, can I contact the debt recovery agency to remind them of the limitation act or could my actions in anyway start the 6 years off again? They're probably well experienced in dealing with this kind of thing and will no doubt try and baffle me into submission with their smooth talk, so is there any particular part of the limitation act that I can hit them with?
