Dental School Interview Advice Needed

Q: I'm going on an interview at LSU Dental school in three weeks, and I would like any tips on what to expect. What are some good ways of preparing for such an event? Thanks for the advice.

A:be honest be knowledgeable about dentistry dress well get a good nights's sleep Interviews are supposed to be a two way street. The school wants you and you want the school. I am a first year student at UOP Dental School in San Francisco. When I prepared for my interviews there were a few thigs I made sure I did: 1. Prepare a few questions to ask the interviewer. 2. Know "why you want to be a dentist". 3. Prepare a "cheat sheet" for yourself. List your special skills (e.g. you play an instrument, you like to paint,..). List any awards you have received, leadership positions, volunteer work, internships, etc. 4. On the night before your interview, read over your personal statement as well as your application to that school. Be sure to get a good sleep and lay out your clothes before you go to bed! 5. 15-20 minutes before your interview, chew some gum to get rid of any bad breath, check your appearance in front of a mirror, and review your "cheat sheet". 6. During your interview, shake hands with the interviewer (firmly!) and maintain eye contact. Make sure that you let the interviewer know enough about you to give a high recommendation! Be sure to thank him/her for his/her time! During my interviews, I was asked the famous question "Why do you want to be a dentist?". Some other questions were: "Tell me about your hobbies.", "How would your parents describe you?", "Why do you want to attend this school?", "Tell me about CYS (a symphony orchestra I was a part of)."
