Store Card. What Does It Take ?

Q: Having lived in the Uk for almost 2 years now, I have a great credit rating with my bank (Natwest) but I have great difficulty with any other institution. is there any way to get on the books of the other agencies, I've tried applying for loans with diff companies like GE Capital for small amounts 3K How do credit ratings work in relation to being on the electoral roll, I am registered at my local council and pay all my bills. I have a good income but get refused for even a simple store card. What does it take

A: -Not unusual. It's probably not that you have a bad credit rating (although you may need to check that there are no errors on your file), but rather that you have no credit rating. Have you got a credit card? If not, obtaining a NatWest card may start the ball rolling. -Going on personal experience which sounds somewhat similar have/are you * self employed * had any credit from anybody ever? I am self-employed and until very recently had never used credit aside from creedit cards (which I nowadays mostly pay off in full every month) and a couple of small, brief, overdrafts. I would regularly be turned down for the most ridiculous things, like a Sainsbury's Merit credit card (that my wife got despite having no income!!). My mum suggested that it was because I had never had credit - not even a 0% APR for 12 months deal... mainly because I have no interest in new cars or furniture! I thought this must be daft... until recently when having now (within the last 2 months) being OK'd for a mortgage of 135K even though we haven't used that mortgage

quite yet, anything (like the sainsdbury;s card!) is seemingly no problem credit wise! -For instance your 2 years of residence can be a problem with one company but not with another one. You do not mention where you live - a particular address (area) can have a bad scoring. Temporary job ditto etc etc Make sure the major credit reference agencies have the correct details. BUT remember, that they do - does not mean you will be given credit - see above. If you are stuck, send me your address I'll gladly redirect your way the tons of unsolicited offers of credit I get I wonder why they always say "as our priviledged customer" even if I never heard of them before!
