Internet Security Check

Do you know how to run an Internet security check for your computer? Perhaps you have been doing so every so often up to this point. If not, however, you need to get one done promptly to make sure your computer is as safe as you think it is from Internet invaders. Start by checking configuration settings. If these have worked consistently well up to now, they probably are still good. Read the computer manual and follow the steps as outlined to run this check. If you are not sure how to follow the directions, contact a computer security specialist or software expert for advice. A customer representative may be able to talk you through the system check by email or telephone. Or you can have someone come to your house or office and perform the check for you. Then find out about any needed upgrades or updates on your antivirus software. Some programs will automatically send updates when they are due for installation, and they can be implemented with a couple of clicks in response to the basic prompts. Other types of updates may require a later version of a software security program. Or you may need to download the latest application, which sometimes can be done for free. In less common situations, you may need to switch security software altogether or add an extra firewall to enhance the level of protection your computer already has. Going through each security set-up point in your computer hardware and programs will help to locate any trouble spots or gaps. Then you can take care of them promptly, and usually inexpensively, before a hacker or virus breaches your current security to cause untold destruction and loss. Even though a security upgrade may seem like a hassle, you will be glad you took time to do it before tragedy strikes the next time a major worm, Trojan, or virus makes the rounds.
