Same Jewelry?
Q: Well, the wedding set is always going to be the same, yes? (My mother
was the only person I ever knew to have multiple wedding sets (one
gold and one platinum). That seems crazy even to me.
So, you've got a wedding set, and it's either white metal or gold
metal. Then how many watches do you need to go with it? I have five
or six--a fancy antique white-gold and diamond one for evening, a
silver tank watch with a black band for business meetings, and a few
silver-and-semiprecious stone ones for every day. (I will point out
that I was lame enough to forget to take off my tank watch for my
wedding, which just makes me cringe every time I see that big old
black leather strap in the wedding pictures...) Am I somehow lacking
in the watch department (other than my hideous wedding watch
solecism)?
A:I have the original set, of course, but what got me going on
collecting was losing the diamond from my original soldered set. So
that meant I *had* to buy a plain band. Then I had to replace the
diamond in my original set, and I went with a mine cut to replace. So
then I had to have a brilliant in yellow gold with tapered baguettes
to go with the plain band, and then I needed a white gold set.
