Toe Ring Tattoo, Do Tattoos Hurt?

Q: i have been wanting a tattoo but i am affraid of the pain.is it bad? i heard that black tattoos hurt more than if you get colored ones...ore vice versa maybe.i can't remember.i want one eiter on my back near the shoulder, an anlke band or just one item on my ankle. am i in for passing out pain??? can anyone tell me what the pain is equivelent to???

A:Another your mileage may vary -- I don't think bony areas hurt at all (just an interesting buzzing/vibrating sensation). On the other hand, sinewy areas, and areas where muscle and sinew attach to bones are a bitch. As well as the inner glute and upper thigh below the butt. I've yet to experience it myself, but I've been told that the inner thigh is no walk in the park. Nothing you'll die from though, and it lasts a mere moment compared to the lifetime of enjoyment looking at it. The first time I got a tattoo, I was really worried about the pain. It didn't help that tattooed friends told me horror stories about blood curdling agony to deliberately freak me out :-) IME, the actual tattoo barely hurts. It feels a little uncomfortable, sometimes a bit ticklish, sometimes like an annoying scrape, definitely nowhere near agony. And this will probably sound weird, but at times, it straddled the border of pain and pleasure. I actually enjoyed the sensation of getting my second tattoo (which was in a bonier area and should have hurt more, go figure). Afterwards, it burned like the worst sunburn imaginable - that was far more painful than the actual tattooing process. However, YMMV. Everyone is hardwired a little differently, and what was painless and fun for me could be absolutely excruciating for someone else. And vice versa.
