Ged Results

Q: Just back from seeing consultant at the hospital and I didn't get to see my normal Dr so I took advantage and asked for my last test result figures. This where the confusion starts (for me at least) TSH..........1.44 FT4...........16 No ranges given I have Graves and have been on a reducing dose of Carbimazole for 19 months, the dose at the moment is 10mg per day. I have been having pain in various joints fingers, elbows, neck, feet, knees and spine for over 6 months, my eyesight is causing me lots of problems and my memory is in chaos. This morning I made a cup of tea and I couldn't find the sugar bowl, I looked everywhere and in the end drank it without, a little later I went to get a saucepan out of a cupboard and there was the sugar bowl. This isn't an isolated incident it keeps happening, I found a loaf of bread in the washing machine one day, I have absolutely no recollection of doing these things and as I am on my own during the day I have no one else to blame. To get back to the point I thought that was a symptom of being Hypo but I was told today that the results above were normal

A:I agree, it would be nice to have a base line of lab results from when we felt well. When I first started having some weird problems years ago, I asked my doctor if she thought they might be thyroid related, but she said she had checked my thyroid and it was normal. Well, silly me, I thought that took care of it. Five years later, I was diagnosed with Graves disease. That was a different doctor, so I don't even know what the lab results were from back then. I wish I could offer help with your eye problem. My doctor initially suggested orbital radiation, but I decided against it, and as I said, my eye problems are now minimal. Have you talked to your doctor, or an opthalmologist about orbital radiation? Perhaps some others on the net who have GED could offer some suggestions. Eye problems are a scary thing. My dad has Graves Disease. He had RAI about 25 years ago and I wonder if that's why his GED flares up periodically. Recently he was diagnosed with glaucoma. You're right; I am on block and replace. It's been a struggle. Like you, I have concentration problems when I'm feeling hyper. I play tournament bridge, which requires a great deal of concentration. Last Saturday at a sectional, my partner and I came in first among about 100 competing pairs, but the next day, I completely lost it at the bridge table and couldn't even remember bidding. I even had to get up in the middle of a hand and go outside for air. Very odd. My partner never knows what to expect. Yes, stamina is also a problem, but I do get a great deal of exercise, just at a slower pace than I feel I should be going. I run on an elliptical machine half an hour, but unless I go slowly, my heart races past 140. It must have been depressing to have been in remission 12 months and then relapse. I hope you feel better soon. Perhaps prior experience tells you where your TSH and T4 levels should be for comfort.
