The effexor side effects that were most likely to cause patients to stop therapy included nausea, sleepiness, insomnia, dizziness, male sexual dysfunction, and headache. Other potential but more rare effexor side effects include increased eye pressure, racing thoughts, rapid pulse, hyperactivity, seizures, thyroid problems, and increased blood pressure. Some research suggests that the drug may increase chances of heart disease. While this drug has fewer side effects than many other antidepressants, effexor side effects are still possible and it is important for patients to remain alert to any dangerous or alarming symptoms they experience. Unusual or hard-to-deal-with symptoms should be reported to a doctor right away.
