Vocational Rehabilitation Services

Vocational rehabilitation services often target people suffering from certain forms of disability. The services are meant to help the participants acquire skills that will help them secure jobs. The services are also helpful to those people who attain a disability; they help them retain their employment incase the employer tries to lay them off.

The services prepare their clients for a normal life in the community. The participant are able to enjoy the same life normal people get to live. The qualified participants are taken through evaluations that will assess their ability to work under normal conditions. They are also counseled on job related issues. The service also offers medical services and therapy if need be. Situational tests can be used to determine the skills and potential of someone with psychiatrist disabilities.

Such rehabilitation centers are run by the state. The services only work with persons who have been declared eligible for the program. There are certain criteria that have to be met before someone is considered qualified for the service:

a. The person must be older than sixteen years of age.

b. For you to qualify for the program, you should be in the unemployed bracket. If you are employed then it should be underemployment.

c. You must have medical proof of the disabilities that discriminate people against employment.

d. You must be a direct beneficiary of the service.

e. You must be in need for preparation of employment, assistance in securing a job and finding employment that pays.

When there is a shortage of resource, the service helps the most disadvantaged first and then works their way up.

A counselor works with a successful applicant until they are able to secure themselves a good job. They do this by helping them enroll in employment agencies. If the applicant may prove to have difficulty in securing a job, their counselor will recommend programs that support such cases. They can be helped in performing their duties until they feel confident enough to do them on their own. The counselor can also help out in the event of a problem; they will analyze the problem and then advise their applicants on how to behave in a more fashionable manner.

There are times that the applicants feel discontent with the quality of service offered by the service. They might feel that the process is taking too long and therefore venture into self-employment. Other applicants feel that their full potential is not being taken into consideration.
