Rehab Nursing Home

Rehab nursing home is place where a person is required to stay, as an inpatient when he or she requires long term assistance, due to either physical illness or injury. Now the usual picture created, in the minds of the readers, when they imagine a person, not capable of taking care of the normal daily routines like bathing, eating, moving around etc, is that of an old and invalid person. These old people, or the senile population, definitely make up around sixty to seventy per cent of these rehab nursing home population. But they are not the only inhabitants there.

A smaller but definite category of the inhabitants are quite young, and they can not take care of themselves, either due to a disability created by a grave sickness, for instance a paralytic stroke, or due to being put in to danger by having to face a serious accident. These people are expected to stay in the rehab nursing home, only for a few days or months. So they are usually kept in a different wing of the rehab nursing home. The section where these young patients are kept is usually referred to as the rehab section of the rehab nursing home.

The majority of the folks, who constitute the inhabitants, are the old people. These people can not take care of their daily activities like the maintenance of personal hygiene, cannot visit the toilet, cannot even feed them selves, and cannot move around on their own. Now that means they are bed ridden. The hope for these kinds of patients is very low, that they will ever regain strength to be fine and fit again. So they are considered as the permanent inmates here. They are usually kept in a special section, and it is called as the nursing home section of the rehab nursing home.

All the rehab nursing home centers are under the surveillance of the federal and the State laws. It is a sad fact that the early 1940s and the 1950s were not quite a good period for the nursing homes, with lot of scary tales of neglect and abuse of the senior citizens being heard. But now the situation is much better. The rehab nursing home must have a nurse on duty round the clock, and they need to be functioning through out the year, according to the new laws in America.
