Knee Injury Rehab

Knee injuries are initailly treated with the help of ice pack; it eases pain caused due to injury. You can create you own ice pack by wrapping ice in a towel and placing it over the knee. Make sure to place your legs on something higher as you lie down. This will help the knee swelling to subside. The other option would be to freeze your hand towel and place it over the knee.

The other way is to use a hot compressor. Heat water in a pot along with herbs and boil it till you can stand the temperature. Soak towel in it, wring out and wrap it around the knee. Repeat the process as and when then towel cools. If you are short of time you could use a heating pad too. The advantage of using a heating pad is that its temperature can be adjusted according to your needs.

Compression bandage is light in weight and used by rehabs to prevent building up of fluid in damaged tissues. This self-adhesive and breathable bandage maintains stability and knee alignment. The doctors at rehab make sure that it is tightly secured, but not so tight that it could cut off blood circulation to the knee.

Follow the doctors' advice. Avoid straining the knee and take good rest to avoid further damage. This way the injury will heal quickly. Playing sports can cause more damage to an injured knee, although you can do your routine work like taking shower, using the restroom etc. Use crutches as it will help to keep off the weight from your knee. To be on your feet for short periods of time is ok as this prevents the knee from getting stiffer.

Physical therapy is another remedial measure adopted by rehabs to resolve knee injuries. Rehabs usually appoint high educated and experienced therapist to treat different types of knee injuries. The session normally begins by re-establishing the motion of the knee. The various exercises prescribed by the physical therapist will build back the strength of the knee slowly. These exercises are specifically designed to set the movement of the knee and regain its stability.

"Prevention is better than cure". People who are overweight have an increased chance of knee injuries. Therefore they must do stretching exercises to keep their knee joint mobile and loose. See a doctor if you experience knee pain as neglecting it can cause permanent damage and make the condition worse.
