Acid Reflux Medication

Q: My boyfriend has acid reflux and it effects him every day. Is there anything he can do or take to prevent it that doesn't involve medication? Like are there any kind of supplements that help reduce it, or does anyone know the types of foods that make it bad? Is there anything any of you have done to deal with it yourself?

A:I have acid reflux disease but mine is controllable through diet. When I was diagnoised I drank too many soft drinks, ate fried food, pretty much nothing good for me. Dr had me on prescription Pepcid, said I'd be on it for life. That was 8 years ago. I worked hard to cut out (or at least cut down on) fried food, processed sugar, fatty food, and chocolate and I only take the occasional Pepcid now.. usually after I crack and have a KFC/Diet Dr Pepper/dark chocolate binge. Alcohol sets mine off too, so no more than 1 margarita at at time for me. Everyone is different, but I bet he can control it a lot by just identifying the foods that set it off and trying to avoid them. I found that changing my diet helped a LOT more than taking medication or sleeping at an angle or any of that did.
