Recovery Company To "send The Boys Round" To Collect Alleged Debt?
Q: Can one of this groups wiser people tell me if its legal for a debt recovery company to "send the boys round" to collect alleged debt? Exact words are: "In the next few days we will be making arrangements for our local representative to call at you home address to establish how you propose to settle the balance outstanding." So-far I have revoked my consent to have local representative on my land or property, if they turn up and don't leave when requested I will forcibly evict if necessary (I'm 6'1", about 17 stone and reasonably fit, so think I could evict if necessary, but only using reasonable force). The debt concerns a water company, I paid my home water bill about 6 weeks late in mid May 98. They keep pressing for payment. It would seem they can't be bothered to check the records, despite my request for them to do that. I now have a copy of the cashed cheque used to pay the bill - I don't owe the money.
