Real Estate Attorney
Q: The interest rates are so low now we're refinancing (again). The attorney we've used for the last couple of years has now gone on to greener pastures. Will anyone recommend an attorney they a) have used b) can recoomend c) they liked, and, d) charge reasonable rates?
A: -You do not *need* an attorney to re-finance your house. If you already own the home and had the title search performed at purchase, it need not be done again. I re-financed my home several times, including getting a home equity loan and never involved an attorney. It is, IMHO, an unnecessary expense. There may be closing costs and re-appraisal fees, but everything can usually be handled by the bank you borrow from. And bear in mind that all/most fees and charges are negotiable -Bill, I was in the business for many years and some folks would say that I'm fairly competent when it comes to this kind of thing. However, when we closed on our home sale, it was in the offices of Maupin, Taylor, Ellis and Adams, where the real estate attorney representing ME was practicing. I'm as conservative as anybody and probably much more of a do-it-yourselfer than most. However, I like the idea of having a good lawyer on my side, reviewing things for problems I may have missed.
