Power Of Attorney ???
Q: If you olwn something on your power of attorney you have said that you would want to be on a respitator to try to recover? I guess we all need to make one huh? did you need to have a lawyer to do this?
A: I have a *Durable Power of Medical Attorney*. As I orignally worded it, it specified that I not be placed on a respirator if there were no reasonable chance of being weaned off. My neuro told me that the problem with that, is that they have no way of knowing if you will eventually be successfully weaned off. So, I am going to amend mine to specify a reasonable trial by respirator. There have been patients who have ended up making decent recoveries despite having used a respirator for a period of time. It was drawn up and witnessed and I have listed two individuals to be in charge of it. That way, in the event of an emergency, if one is not available, the other one will be. Hope this helps.
