Debt Free
When almost everyone around you has debt of some kind, it is easy to wonder whether it is ever possible for anybody to be completely debt free in today's world. The good news is that it is. Being debt free is not about earning a lot of money. Rich people are not necessarily debt free. In fact, you will be surprised at how many of them owe large amounts. Instead, being debt free is all about having good financial habits. Like all habits, financial habits too are not very easy to follow. But if you persevere, you will find that they soon become second nature to you. The most important aspect of being debt free is to not take on unnecessary debt. This doesn't mean that you don't take the student loan that will help get you through college. However, it does mean that you don't change your entire wardrobe every season or that you limit your visits to your favorite nightclub to the barest minimum. The key is to recognize the difference between having something that you really need and something that you really want. The little luxuries that you keep paying for with your credit card may not seem like much right now, but remember that it all adds up. Unless you have a definitely way of paying for something, don't buy it. Staying debt free also means that you keep a close track of your expenses, your income and any debt. Pay off any bills as and when they arise. Cut back on something, if needed. If needed, take on an additional job so that you have one more source of income. Remember that the more prompt you are about paying your debts, the less you will end up paying as interest costs thereby reducing your overall debt amount. Taking these steps may seem difficult. But keep in mind the advantages of being debt free. You won't need to worry about whether you will be able to meet your monthly payments or not. You won't need to avoid phone calls from your creditors. And most importantly, you will maintain an impeccable credit record so that if you do need to take a loan for some unforeseen reason, you will get it at the best rates possible.
