French Perfume

French perfume is the most famous and luxurious in the world. The words remind you of walking along the Seine, strolling in Provence under the moon, or springtime in Paris. French perfume means romance, love, and a promise of much, much more. French perfume manufacturing goes back at least three centuries and today the French hold a substantial share of the ever-growing perfume and cologne market. Some experts call the perfume industry recession-proof and it has certainly shown itself capable of weathering almost every economic storm. It is not just an export miracle either, since something like ninety percent of all women in France use perfume and up to fifty percent of all men prefer their French cologne. Every year over a hundred new perfumes are launched usually in August to be ready for the annual gift perfume Christmas giving with gigantic advertising campaigns that might cost from$ 20 to 50 million dollars. Then again, that's nothing compared to the massive profits that giants Dior or Cartier. Their goal is to reach one billion French francs or $200,000 American for products like Poison by Dior that did that in 1987. The two biggest French companies are L'Oreal that makes Lanc?me, Ralph Lauren, Cacharel, Guy Laroche, Giorgio Armani, Paloma Picasso and Lanvin. Louis-Vuitton- Mo?t-Hennessy (LVMH), that offers Christian Dior, Guerlain, and Givenchy. These two big shots are closely followed by Sanofi that manufactures famous brands like Yves Saint-Laurent, Nina Ricci, Van Cleef & Arpels, Oscar de la Renta. Perhaps the most famous perfume house of all in France is Chanel, the brainchild of perfume maven Coco Chanel and what has been called the best perfume in the world, Chanel No.5. Coco Chanel once described this perfume as a prelude to a kiss and wanted to make this product something that every woman could have and enjoy. She has been very successful and today Chanel still sells a bottle of Chanel No.5 every ninety minutes every day of the year. French perfume is no longer accessible for just the rich and famous. Today every woman can easily afford at least one French perfume choice in her fragrance collection. But it is still as luxurious and glamorous as ever.
