Online Or Distance Physics Course
Q: My daughter is a h.s. junior, 760 on the SAT II in Chem. She wants to take both Bio II AP and Chem II AP senior year, but has not taken Physics. She is at a new school this year and they require Physics before she can take advanced science classes. She's top 10% of class, etc. Does anyone know of a good online or distance Physics course? Alternatively, she wanted to spend the summer in France, should she try to take a university course there? I'm afraid her French will not be up to the technical/scientific vocabulary necessary. Anybody with suggestions?
A: Would it be possible for you as a parent to have them place your daughter in these courses w/o Physics. I've heard that parents can do stuff like this although they may hassle you. I can see no real good reason why one would really have to know physics to do AP level Bio or Chem. Would they take an online course for credit or does she just wanna have some physics background? Cal Tech has their syllabus online at: http://www.pma.caltech.edu/Courses/00index.html Or you could just grad Halliday & Resnick (a pretty standard physics text) and I *think* the main topics in first year physics is: Newtonian mechanics, waves, optics, thermodynamics, electricity/magnetism.
