Sci.engr.mech.internships.coops????

Q: I know that the majority of the people who read this news group are experienced engineers who have been in the field for a good amount of time. There are also, I would hope, a lot of college students like myself who are curiously exploring this news group. I feel that there is a need for a new group dealing with available summer internships and co-op positions for mechanical engineering students. Everybody knows that a good engineer needs good hands on experience. In this day and age with the economy how it is, most of us engineers are desparately searching for jobs with nowhere to turn. I think the creation of a news group focused around this subject would be very beneficial. Anyone that feels the same way, I urge you to please respond.

A: - Hi!! I know that the majority of the people who read this news group are experienced engineers who have been in the field for a good amount of time. With all due respect, this is getting a little crazy. I too am very annoyed that I have to weed through hundreds of CS and EE jobs to get to an ME position. The problem is that there aren't that many ME jobs posted relative to the number of CS jobs. Let's just start a single group for now, we can add an additional group later if we need it. Engineers who are looking for a job will still be forced to review misc.jobs.* frequently since there's no guarantee headhunters will cross post. Wouldn't it make more sense to alter the misc.jobs heirachy instead of starting job groups off of sci.*. A good kill file can take care of 99% of the non engineering jobs in misc.jobs.*. - I think this is a great idea! I've already started an area on the Cleveland Free-Net that has a list of a bunch of internships and research opportunities. To check it out, telnet to freenet-in-a.cwru.edu (freenet-in-b and freenet-in-c will also work), log in as a visitor and type "go seiro" at the Your Choice ==> prompt and then follow the menus. Let me know what you think. Maybe it would be better to start a Usenet newsgroup that dealt with ALL engineering internships and research opportunitites. Something like sci.engr.internships.
