Can I Save Docs Without Letterhead Template Included?

Q: I have been trying to figure this out. for a while. I want to be able to print letters on a letterhead template. No biggie. Well the problem is that my template is about 200k. So every letter I write and save is about 210k. When it was only about 5k without the template. Is there a way to save the letter, maintain its formatting, but without the letterhead elements included in the save of every document? That extra 200k per document really adds up to alot of wasted space. And we are working on mac and PC platforms, so please do not provide a "windows" solution. We need a "MS Office" solution.

A: You may be able to link your letterhead info instead of placing it directly in the template: - Create a new document and place your letterhead information in the text layer of the document - not the Header/Footer layer - Save the file in a shared location - In your template view the Header/Footer - Go to Insert/File and insert your file as a Link I'm not sure where the Link option is located in the Insert/File dialog box in the Mac version of Word. It could be a check box or located under the "Insert" menu at the bottom of the dialog box. Actually this method works best for letterhead templates. If your letterhead should ever change all you need to do is update the source file and all of your previously created documents based on the template will automatically update.
