Q: i was just wondering what method can i do to get power of attorney only for my mother medical decisions like going to the doctor appt . Could someone give me some advice i dont want to go to a lawyer an pay out 150.00 and then i probably could have came out cheaper.
A: A Durable Power of Attorney for Health Care form can obtained free. Your HMO will have the forms and a non-HMO doctor's office might have them. Some banks have them, stationary stores have them. Some lawyers hand them out free. The internet has them. In my state, the Probate Code has a form that is guaranteed to be valid if properly executed. The advantage of using the form in the state code is that doctors and hospitals recognize them at a glance and generally know what the forms authorize.
