Vintage Question

Q: What constitutes "vintage"? How would you be able to tell besides taking someones word for it?

A:Most agree that vintage means 50 years old to 100 years old. Anything over 100 years old is considered antique. Of course the term vintage is VERY loosely used, especially in auction descriptions, and can mean anything from used, really old, I don't have a clue, grubby & dirty, to something that is vintage STYLE. The reason the word vintage is used so often is that it is a buzzword that attracts buyers. It has the connotation of being scarce and therefore desirable. One thing that makes it all even more confusing is there is a lot of contemporary beads, cabs, components and jewelry that is either made in a vintage style, or perhaps is still being made from vintage designs.
