University Of Texas Class Ring, A Horror Story ?

Q: This term, I'm sitting on my first dissertation committee. The student has completed and everything is signed and is ready to go for graduation. The student dated the signature page May 5 2003. The problem is that a comma is supposed to go between the date and year. Of course, it's a simple correction... just correct it and reprint that page, right? And, were it *any* other page, that would be all there is to it; however, this typo is on the committee's signature page... and they've scattered to the four winds for the summer... and the dissertation *must* be in by noon tomorrow! ... and there's nothing on this green planet that's going to make the registrar accept the signature page with a typo on it. I don't think that the poor student will graduate because of that stupid comma. She'll have to sign up for "Dissertation in Progress" in the fall, pay a semester's worth of fees, and graduate next December. I'm thinking about offering to sleep with the registrar if she'll just ignore the silly comma. That registrar certainly acts like she needs some excitement in her life! It could be worse, I suppose... the student could have missed a period! But, then... that wouldn't have been my problem, since I would have had nothing to do with it.

A:I know how that goes, a friend went for his Masters at Niagara University, its a Catholic Univ. Well, all that work what did they do ? They ' MEASURED' the Margins only ! No one even read his paper. I had him go over my term paper for the Gold Standard. He typed it, I couldn't and this certain Lady who could took a very sudden dislike of me. ( she was sure dumb!) I predicted Gold, due to hording in S.E. Asia created a low amount of Gold and the price of $35.00 an Oz. would hit $ 75.00 over a weekend so as not to create a panic buy. You could not own Bullion at that time. I had $5,000 in the Bank. Had I listened to my own consul..... and made a trip to Hong Kong....the price did hit what ? About $ 600 an Oz..? Over a period of time that I still can't understand. I got a A-. We both were pissed. The Professor was a local Banker, I often wondered what he thought ? Its an interesting subject as now there is far too much Gold mined. The Old Soviet Empire never sold Gold in consecutive serial numbers, just to screw things up. I was for a Gold Standard, but as of now it seems to be the Oil Standard. Later it will be Soy Beans. Under Pol Pot, Gold was used to buy freedom for people escaping that fine Regime. Plenty of horded Gold then hit the open market lowering the price. You still see this in jewelry as bracelets with indents in them from S.E.

A: , its to break off a piece if needed. You ever thought about calling the student and having her print out another page? That's what all my instructors have done when time was left before a project had to be turned in. Way back in the Stone Age when papers were actually typed on Elites or Picas, I had a half-blind typing instructor who would simply hold a paper up to the light and count the number of White Out smudges in order to grade a paper. He never knew I had him figured out -- or maybe he did. I was taking both remedial typing and trying to learn the new word processing commands at the same time. The command prompts were so complex as to be almost impossible to remember. Somehow I always made an A in his class -- and I "wasn't" a compliant coed. My mudder taught me udder ways to get what I needed -- such as figuring out how the instructors graded papers.
