Tuscon Gem Show

Q: I am planning my first trip to the Tuscon Gem Show next February. Has anyone been there? Do you have any tips on how to maneuver through what I imagine is a mind numbing and eye dazzling spectacle?

A:I have been to the International Gem Show in Tucson. Let me tell you! You will go nuts. Take plenty of easy cash. You get better deals. It all depends on what you are looking for when you are there as to what your plan of attack should be. My friend who lives in Phoenix goes every year. We look for fancy cut gem stones to make jewelry with. LOTS of those there. Plenty of beads, tho, too. We never go near the huge exposition hall. All the good action is in the outlying motel rooms surrounding the area. International sellers take a room for the duration of the show and sleep there at night while by day turning the rooms into their sales shops. There is a huge white tent near the motels that houses many jewel setters. Very good deals. You can find everything there. It will boggle your mind. You will have so much fun. You actually have to attend this venue once to figure out how to attack it properly the next year.
