Personalizing That Diamond Engagement Ring

When couples are ready to take the next step and make that big commitment, the young man (usually) buys his lady a diamond engagement ring. That seems simple enough, or does it? His wife will be the most special woman in his life, and he will want to pick just the right diamond engagement ring. That is not always easy. There are many things to consider when buying this ring. Obviously, there are the value criteria that jewelers emphasize (clarity, color, carat and cut), but that is probably the easiest part. The challenge will be getting the diamond engagement ring that will best suit her as an individual. What is Her Style? Her personal style is very important because it will be a good clue as to what kind of diamond engagement ring should be bought for her. What kind of clothes does she wear? A woman who dresses in a trendy style would prefer a different diamond engagement ring than someone whose style is more casual. What about the other jewelry she wears? What does that say about her style? Is it somewhat subtle, or is it the extravagant jewelry that turns heads? These should serve as clues that will lead the buyer to the perfect diamond engagement ring. If the man is still unsure, he can take her to the jewelry store with him and pretend he is looking for something for himself or someone in his family. Then, he can observe the ring styles she looks at most and which ones she might want to try on. What About Her Hands? While personal style is of primary importance, how a diamond engagement ring will look on her hand is another thing to consider. For a woman with long slender fingers or muscular hands, a diamond engagement ring with a large pronged setting and a diamond that sticks out would look very good. However, on other types of hands, this might look gaudy. If a woman has rather wide and short fingers, a medium sized ring with a large stone will look great as long as the diamond remains flat against the hand instead of sticking out. For a woman with small fingers that are thin and delicate, thin delicate settings compliment these hands nicely, and a woman with small fingers should have a small stone on her diamond engagement ring. Finding Her Ring Size Finding the woman's ring size is absolutely necessary for getting the diamond engagement ring. However, if the guy is looking to surprise her, it may be a bit tricky, but there are ways to do it. If she is in the habit of leaving her rings lying around, he could trace the inside of the ring on a piece of paper or put one of the rings on his own finger as far down as it will go then mark the spot with a pen. Then he can show it to a jeweler who will measure it. However, the way to get the most accurate measurement is to take one of her rings to the jeweler if this can be done without arousing suspicion.
