Man Sterling Silver Jewelry

Q: technically it's not my first. I designed my earring and a circlet that we used in our wedding first. But this is the first sterling silver piece i made that i'd be willing to part with: http://home.earthlink.net/~fewilcox/bracelet.silver.blue_cube_catseye... i made it sometime last year. I've since learned to only use full-hard silver so i stocked up at firemountain. 8O) Why, you may ask? b/c it fell apart 'cause i used dead soft silver (not knowing better) that i got from Chevron Trading Post & Bead Company here in Asheville. i plan to make this kind of thing my specialty . Whaddya'll think of it? Is it marketable?

A:it depends on your definition of marketable. As in what market are you aiming for? Where do you want to sell? What is your targeted audience? If you are looking at juried shows, it won't get you in. If you are looking at small gift shops, possibly. On the net? Sure. Anything goes on the net, as soon as the person who loves it finds it. Technically, it would not be considered sterling silver jewelry. It would be beaded jewelry on sterling silver wire. When the primary focus of the jewelry becomes the silver with the beads as accent, then it's silver jewelry. That being said, it will command a higher price since you are using silver. And, like anything, practice leads to improvement. Hang onto that dead-soft wire. It will come in handy when embellishing your work. All wire eventually becomes hard if you work with it long enough. For instance, take a piece of your soft wire about 5 inches long. Grip each end with a pair of pliers. Now twist the wire. Now twist back the other way. Do this a few times and you will have hard wire. Keep at it. Find your "look" and your niche. Then market the hell out of it. Also, read the Complete Metalsmith by Tim McCright (I think I got the last name right.....). You need basic knowledge. It will also lead you to more ideas.
