Man Jewelry Watch Box

Q: I tripped over a claimed NOS Eterna-matic 3000 "Sevenday" D-D and 2 Kingmatics today. $300 per copy. Yes, I know I'm an idiot for not asking which movements each contained, I had time pressure... and I'm basically a "I like the way it looks" guy when it comes to watches... but I'm also value oriented. Eterna http://i1.tinypic.com/27y6a9e.jpg King1 http://i7.tinypic.com/27y6cuq.jpg King2 http://i3.tinypic.com/27y6fky.jpg I like them all $300 worth... but not $400 worth, presuming I need to have all 3 CLA'd. For that $ I can have the Seamaster I really want, have it serviced and enough change for a few nice filets at the Bonefish. I haven't been able to find much info on the Eterna. Any of you expert hors know off-hand where an ignoramous should begin to look???

A:I buy for resale and would not have paid more than $200 for all 3 watches. I wouldn't want them for my own collection, other than the DD on the Eterna, the 3 watches look the same -- drab steel watches with silver dials. You could change watches every few minutes and nobody would notice the difference. You said ?claimed NOS". NOS, new old stock, was discussed here a while ago. IMO, for these watches to be NOS they would have to come with original boxes and papers and show no signs of wear. This is NOS condition http://tinyurl.com/je4ou I know, your watch could'a been sitting in the back of a jewelry store drawer for decades and the box long discarded. If that's the case I'd want to see some documentation. The chief claim to fame for the Eterna is that it is the origin of the very popular ETA 2836 and 2842 movements. Yep, whoopee. You can buy a new Sandoz for less $ and have a warranty. Early Kingmatics had annoyingly noisy and bumpy bump wind movements. The later ones had quieter movements made by Universal that I've had good luck with but the watchmakers on this group seem to hate. My condolences if you need parts. Movado made some very cool Kingmatics, but these ain't them. Look for solid gold cases, interesting dials and the very rare chronometer rated version. If your Kingmatics are lightly used and in good condition internally they're a good source of parts for better watches
