Looking For Books On Silver Jewelry Making .

Q: I'm looking for a nice book or books on making silver jewelry, particularly necklaces, bracelets, and brooches. I'd like the book to have a lot of photos for inspiration, and techniques. African-style or Indian-style would be preferable, but not necessary. Does anyone have any suggestions?

A:One book that's just about indispensable for a beginning silversmith is Tim McCreight's "The Complete Metalsmith". It's about techniques much more than design but it will tell you how to do just about anything a beginner or intermediate smith is likely to want to do. As far as Indian jewelry in particular is concerned: Oscar T. Branson's Indian Jewelry Making, Volume 1 and 2, are pretty good. Also useful, although wonderfully dated is Ben Hunt's Indian Silversmithing. The best jewellery making book is the Oppi Untract, Jewellery Concepts and Technology, in my opinion. Possibly has every technique and process explained in there that would be inspiration for jewellery making. I think its published by the N.

A: G. press and is a hefty hardback book but well worth it. The best jewellery making book is the Oppi Untract, Jewellery Concepts and Technology, in my opinion.
