In Search Of: Funky Silver Rings Or Earrings

Q: When I was in NY I bought many (many, many, many...) silver rings from street vendors. Since I've moved it hasn't been so easy, but I've done much searching on the internet. I've found some interesting rings at HSN, QVC and eBay (TJ Maxx usually has good things too, I think mostly from HSN & QVC). One website I like a lot is: www.marchenoir.com

A:Yes, TJ Maxx usually has incredible marcasite jewelry! I've gotten some thick marcasite bands, leafy wrap rings, and bracelets from them. Prices are quite reasonable too. I was in Target yesterday and i thought they had interesting silver jewelry. i bought a sterling silver marcasite and garnet watch and some gaudy red coral earrings . they also had some jewelry with red carnelian that was very interesting. Online, try the Offerings special collection line on shopnbc.com - new agey and lots of carved bone and stone goddess items with unusual stones. On the same site, Charles Winston also does some nice knockoffs in sterling and colored czs or lab-created stones of the Bulgari/Cartier look (pave flowers and critters wrapping around the sides of a large center stone, ex: J108425 with a frog) that's popular in high end custom jewelry now. Samuel B does a nice knockoff of the YG/silver David Yurman look, kind of funky. Chuck Clemency has a silver line called NYC II but I probably wouldn't call it funky. I think shopnbc also carries some Taxco and other silver pieces. QVC has some nice Balinese silver items, search for "Artisan Crafted" silver. They also have Taxco pieces but I don't think they cary the inventory they used to. Some really lovely silver pieces are from Robert Lee Morris and some are funky/organic in design, worth a look.
