Fashion Pearl Jewelry

Q: I'm in the process of paring down my wardrobe - trying to to focus on classic simplicity, if that makes any sense. The little black dress, of course, goes with out saying. Any suggestions? What's the one thing you can't live without?

A:My sister will be glad to hear that, she just started working at Ann Taylor in SF and yesterday bought alot of things for 50% off and she did get a black cashmere twinset but she sed the outer sweater has one button, she loves it even tho she thought she spend alot. Its a classic look I think. My fashion basics would actually be very similiar to Chunae's which was the post after Joels. I would probably add loafers of some type wether they be with a flat or chunky heel. The aforementioned black dress (actually, one isn't enough. I need a short one, long one, one somewhat casual/versatile, one fairly dressy, etc. But keep in mind that most of my clothes are black now anyway) Jeans that fit well. Preferably blue, though it's nice to have a black pair too. Black t-shirts, to wear with the jeans and almost anything else. A long black skirt to wear with almost anything. A short black skirt to wear with almost anything. A good coat that goes with most of my outfits. Currently a charcoal grey, knee-length Kenneth Cole coat that I bought last year, though I still really want a full length black one, which is timeless. A good handbag. Some good (black, to go with everything else) comfortable shoes in good condition. A versatile, warm sweater to wear when it isn't quite coat weather, but an outer layer is needed (and in the San Francisco area, this is most of the time!) My current one is a dark grey wool cardigan from J. Crew. A nice, versatile wristwatch. Some elegant, understated pieces of silver jewelry. A good haircut. Some red lipstick. First take all your clothes and divide them up into clothes I still wear and clothes I would only wear to gym or that are stained or not adequate in some way (bright purple w/ bleach spots ors something). This always knocks out 50% of my wardrobe. Then look at your remaining clothes and think of what you'll need for Fall depending on where you live. Start paring down from there w/ what you like and the basics of fashion. I've yet to know a female who couldn't give me justification to remove 60% of the clothes in her wardrobe (not that they do). I've got a bunch of 30'' waist pants and shorts that i'll probably never fit into again. Don't keep them if you'll never fit into them. They're only depressing. I fit very comfortably in 34'' and am not in bad shape so those 30'' had to go. You might find you don't need to pare down much after that but buy some more IMHO. here is my list of my "classic basics" that I rely on: *black button down crewneck cashmere or wool cardigan - this item is so versatile *sweaters and sweater sets in various colors *well made thick cotton tees in various colors *simple black just above the knee skirt *the perfect sleeveless little black dress *black pants *khakis *the perfect blue jeans *white canvas sneakers *well made black leather shoes with a low heel - ballet flats would count *classic delicate jewlery like diamond stud or pearl earrings and necklaces with a pearl drop or a diamond pendant *a two tone gold silver watch *a well made black leather handbag
