Choosing Prom Jewelry

Prom is undoubtedly one of the finest times of a young woman's life. Up until this point, there has been very little else to compare with the prospect of a prom. The first prom of any teenaged girl is met with anticipation and delight. The dress must be perfect, her done in style and done just so, and her shoes must be stylish and appropriately comfortable. And, of course, she must have prom jewelry that accents all she has done, and that adorns her in such a manner as to enhance all of the charms of her person and dress. Deciding what prom jewelry should be worn can be a daunting task. However, it is important to remember that prom jewelry is not, after all, the same thing as wedding jewelry. There is no need for it to be diamonds. Costume jewelry, in the form of elegantly appointed rhinestones, is often sufficient for prom. The key is to make sure that the stones are not so big as to be ostentatious. If they are small and simple, they look as elegant as diamonds, and might even be mistaken for such. However, larger rhinestones tend to easily give away that they are not diamonds, and they often just look gaudy. The type of dress, and how it looks, also affects what prom jewelry should be chosen. If the dress has a high neck, a necklace or choker may be out of place. Earrings are always appropriate, and should lend themselves to the style of the hair do. Bracelets are not often worn as prom jewelry, as they can look out of place. However, a simple close fitting bracelet can look very nice over satin gloves, if the young woman happens to be wearing gloves. Likewise a small and close fitting anklet can also be very becoming as prom jewelry. Some girls choose to wear tiaras in their hair for prom jewelry, but it is vital that such an ornament be kept very small, lest others accuse her of contending with the prom queen. With discretion and judgment, prom jewelry can be very elegant and add much to the look of the entire evening.
