A: A reasonably intelligent remark. No, behavior is not a race. However, all you saw of my "behavior" (a word which you have no right to use, being in no authority over me and unable to observe "behavior", observing instead a text) was the serious raising of a serious concern which also appears in the group-written source wikipedia, my own experience as a consumer, and, in the case of the parallel situation with the XBox, in articles in The International Herald Tribune. You immediately characterised it as trolling because it upset you, and you are a member of a group which proceeded, collectively, to paint a picture of a marginal character, perhaps a minority, female, or homeless person who by definition had nothing worth-while to say. This is an ism, racist or classist. For someone who claims intellectual credentials, you sure look like an idiot from where I stand. The language in a Godwin convergence about which Mike Godwin is ignorant converges on Fascism, because we usually, in discussions of this nature, start characterising people who here use complex sentence structure or who are credentialed even trivially as "truly", under the rose as it were, "idiots", whose beliefs indicate that they are deprived of some sort of real-world insight, who are trying to apply, inappropriately, theories of Utopia to a real world, in which the correspondent finds himself enmeshed. This is because American software developers, who probably make the majority of respondents here, are well aware that their skills, especially in the area of software reliability, are and always have been deficient with respect to foreign developers, this deficiency starting with the choice of Fortran over Algol. In embedded systems in particular, one hears repeatedly strikingly anti-intellectual rants against modern approaches such as OO based on the feeling only, that embedded systems software people have in the USA, that they are Special, because their platforms are novel and underpowered in some instances...despite the fact that OO is a natural choice for devices. I was not involved in the development of either the XBox or the iPod yet given the fail rate, I believe that the anti-intellectualism of its developers (including theft of other people's code) was fostered by management who overinvested in the parts they could make proprietary, and the result was low MTBF. If I'm wrong, prove it. Give another reason for iPod failure in normal use, INCLUDING failures that are illusions because of the oversimplified (almost moronized) user interface and the lack of manuals.
