Q: I dont want to go to the doctor unless I really really have to. Ive been
getting bad heartburn/indigestion for a few months now and Ive hoped
itll go away but its getting worse. It woke me up at 3am saturday and
was so severe I could hardly breath, I took some OTC stuff thats
supposed to work 12 hours but it only eased it a little. I went to the
pharmacist in the morning and she gave me the strongest stuff she could
but it didnt help at all. It didnt ease off til last night and its
coming back again now (after eating). Its very uncomfortable.
Is there anything I can do to alleviate it? Perhaps some herbally thing?
Can anyone in the group help me please?
A:I will look out for them when I go into town tomorrow. Thanks Margie. I will make that appointment. I dont want to. Partly cos Ive been seeing the doc once a month with that spell of depression I had, The past couple of months Ive been telling him Im feeling fine and depression wise I am, Im billions better. But I didnt want to tell him about the indigestion cos I thought it would go away and because I dont want any invasive investigations done. A few years ago I had a lot of investigations cos of irritable bowel. In the end I couldnt tell whether it was the original ibs causing problems or all the investigations and meds I had to take. I guess Im being a bit cowardly If it has been going on as long as you say, go to the doctor. Heartburn can be a symptom for several different health problems, other than just indigestion, from ulcers to heart attack. Since the OTC medicine is not working, you need to seek professional advice.
