Apple Stock Symbol

"Apple" is almost always uttered in the same breath as "Mac" (for MacIntosh). MacIntosh write the operating system for the computers that Apple manufacture - the logo is pretty familiar to most of - the fruit with its stalk and the bite taken out of the right hand side but how many of us would recognize the group of four letters AAPL? AAPL is the Stock Market Symbol for Apple Computer Incorporated. When an investor wants to check the current price of his stock, or find news of companies in which he holds stock or perhaps is thinking about investing in, he will go to an appropriate web site and, in the search box, type the Stock Market Symbol of the company concerned. Next to that, there'll usually be check boxes asking the searcher to nominate share price or news. There are numerous web sites offering services like that. The most obvious ones are those of the stock exchanges themselves. NYSE (New York Stock Exchange), he Toronto stock exchange, NASDAQ, the Paris Bourse, London, Frankfurt, Hong Kong, Tokyo all have web sites that will have the information sought. There are plenty of other places to get stock prices and news too. Sometimes, the web pages of the exchanges themselves can be a little daunting - too busy and perhaps with far more detail than most people need or want. The option then is the web site of a financial publication like the Wall Street Journal or in Europe, The Financial Times (London) or La Monde (Paris). Then there are the magazines like Businessweek and Investors Chronicle. Last in the possibilities for finding news and prices of stock, are the Internet Service Providers like AOL, Yahoo and MSN. For the ordinary individual who holds a small number of shares in a company, these Internet Portals are probably as good a place as any to get information. Usually, the home page will offer a link to a Finance or Business page which will then have stock market data (as well as currency exchange rates) every prominently offered and in a format that's easy to use and understand. Apple Computer started life in a garage, where two Steves, Jobs and Wozniak, developed their first computer. The early machines looked like any other desk top computer but since 1998, Apple have built computers that look different - they wouldn't look out of place on the bridge of a Starship. iMac and iBook, are almost fashion accessories with their minimalist and colorful appearance. AppleMac is mainly used by professionals for sound and image manipulation - they prefer the stability of the platform compared to PC with Windows. Similarly, the print industry is highly geared up for using Powermacs and over half the schools in America are "Mac". The future for Apple however looks like the iPod - the music reproduction and storage system. It's taken the market by storm all over the world and the competitors don't seem to have any answers. Add this to the brilliant OSX operating system and the future looks bright - many more of us may soon be typing AAPL into our web browsers.
