Form Federal Tax

Federal tax forms can generally be obtained by mail, internet, your local post office and the local library. The government will usually mail the same forms to you that you used last year. If you don't receive them in the mail, then you can find federal tax forms on the internet at http://www.forms.gov and download them to your printer. If you don't have access to the internet or printer, then look for the forms at the library or the post office. If you don't see the specific forms for your needs you may call the IRS Toll-Free, 1-800-829-3676.

Form 1040 is the most popular tax return form. There are three types of the 1040 form: the 1040, 1040EZ and 1040A.

The 1040 is the single most important of all the tax forms published by the government.

Most of the other forms basically feed their calculations and information into this form.

The 1040EZ and 1040A are the simplest versions of this tax form. If you don't have many deductions and make less than $100, 000, then one of these simple versions is all you need to file your tax return.

If you're filing a 1040 long form, (if you have more deductions to claim) then the two most important backup forms are Schedule A&B. The tax form Schedule A is used to figure out a taxpayer's itemized deductions. As a taxpayer, there is nothing better than tax deductions because they lower our tax liability or tax bill.

Every taxpayer is entitled to the standard deductions as determined by the IRS tax code. If the taxpayer can increase these standard deductions using Schedule A, then they are allowed to take the higher tax deduction.

IRS Schedule B is the form used to report interest income and ordinary dividends. If you have money in an interest bearing savings account, then the banking and / or financial institutions will have sent to you a form 1090-INT in the mail. If you have received a distribution of dividends, then the banking and / or a financial institution will report this information a form 1090-DIV.

The information found on the 1090-INT and 1090-DIV is used to fill out the IRS form Schedule B.

The three 1040 forms are the most popular forms used.
