Favourite Clothing

Q: Over at alt.fashion they have a thread going about the one item of clothing that people find ties their wardrobe together. Most of the people have selected either a pair of jeans/trousers or a solid colour (usually black) long sleeve t-shirt. A few years ago I had a thin black knitted top that I adored. I've never been able to find one with which to replace it. I have a black long sleeve t-shirt and a warm (thickish) black sweater. Both are practical but not the loved item the thin sweater was. As I examine my wardrobe in a clutter context it is definitely true that at most times of my life I have had one or two favourite pieces of clothing and some that I have never worn. My conclusions are that if it doesn't fit *now* it might as well be thrown/given away. If it is a colour I don't like it *has* to go. If it is not comfortable or it creeps or slips or droops or hangs wrong it must go. A number of years ago I saw an article which described a wardrobe with 12 (or about that number) of items which really did provide a versatile wardrobe. I'm aiming to get there soon. :-) Moira, the Faerie Godmother

A: I have one dress that I had to buy for my Dad's funeral--before that I didn't have any dresses. My Dad's hunting buddy had to tell me to go shopping. That was kind of weird to do in the middle of planning a funeral and shopping for a plot. Had to get shoes too. My wardrobe staple is 517 bootcut levis. I just can't stand anything else--and I can't wear women's because they come up too high above my waist. I wear T-shirts with them. One of my new ones is a blue Northern Reflections all over print of little daisies I got used on eBay. Very daring for me--but I feel good in it--feminine, you know? ....and it's only a size Large :) I also wear wool socks year round. I just ordered 6 pr. of Wigwams because I started blowing the heels one after the other in the ones I had--but they were about 6 years old. :) Without thick socks I get heel spurs--because (as Mom says) I pound my heels when I walk. I like to think of them as good heel strikes. :) Also, Vanity Fair hipsters--only ones I can make last because I can't put my thumbs through the elastic at the waist. They make a high cut--but I think those look silly--I'd be embarassed if I was ever in a car accident. :) I'm still searching for the perfect bra--then I'll be all set--just need a few more nifty T-shirt tops (short-sleeved because the long-sleeved T-shirts are never long enough for my ape arms and it's too hot for them most of the year here anyway.) Can't wear girdles--they make me feel like I'm going to throw up.--and oh yeah, panty hose are always too short. :( Is it any wonder I don't like skirts and dresses? The foundations underneath can kill ya! (or at least make you wish you were dead :) Brenda (who opts for comfort every time these days :) P.S. I finally learned to sleep in the pajamas Mom got me for Christmas. I'm even thinking of getting another pair. Haven't been able to learn to use the slippers and robe yet, though--much to Mom's dismay--and oh yeah--she hates the way I make my bed--bottom sheet and down comforter. It's just not right to sleep without a top sheet and at least 3 blankets tucked into the bottom of the bed according to her. She's trying to civilize me!
