Reliant Energy is an international energy services company that is based in Houston, Texas. It is one of the largest combination electric and gas companies in the U.S., Reliant Energy invests in power generation projects and is a major energy services company providing wholesale trading and marketing services as well as natural gas transportation, supply, gathering, and storage. The company also provides a complete suite of energy products and services to approximately 1.9 million electricity customers in Texas that range from residences and small businesses; to large commercial, industrial and institutional customers. Reliant Energy Co. saw that there was a need for a new approach to coal containment and collection. National Petroleum & Energy Services, Inc. still has an on-going relationship with Reliant Energy Co. and has revolutionized the concept of containment and collection of Fugitive Emissions. Coal conveyors and coal transfer points are continuously upgraded by NPESI at all Reliant Energy coal-fired power plants. There are over twenty systems that have had the NPESI applications upgrade and spillage and collection is almost at zero. NPESI continues this partnership of knowledge and shares with Reliant Energy Co. the continued attitude of systems improvement, and sensitivity for the environment. Their combined efforts are making things much better for the consumers. Because Reliance Energy is the country's largest private sector power generation, distribution and transmission company, it has a significant presence in Maharashtra, Goa and Andhra Pradesh. Up until 1996, the company was engaged only in power distribution but it soon integrated vertically by entering into generation with a 500 MW thermal generation plant at Dahanu. The company's total generation capacity of nearly 941 MW spread across five projects. Parent, Reliance Industries' natural gas finds in the Krishna Godavari Basin is likely to help Reliance Energy to integrate into a global energy player with a presence from the well-head feedstock to the wall-socket.
