Satellite Tv Has Come A Long Way

Satellite tv was first used in 1957 by the Russian Sputnik. Despite it's early entry, satellite tv did not become used for public viewing until 1978, when PBS (Public Broadcasting System) was the first television station to transmit using a satellite signal. During the early 80's "Direct to Home" receivers were introduced, allowing people in rural areas to receive tv programming that was similar to the cable tv lineup, without having to have an antennae connected to the tv. In order to receive the satellite tv programming, a satellite tv signal receiver and a satellite dish needed to be installed. Despite the massive appearance of the satellite dish, many people opted to install satellite tv which involved placing a large satellite dish in your yard and running a cable under the ground from the satellite dish to your satellite tv signal receiver, which was in your house and connected to your tv. Since then, satellite tv has become readily available in both rural and urban areas. Satellite tv services have also become more competively priced against traditional cable companies, and the actual satellite dish is much smaller and easily hidden then the earlier types. With the increase of satellite tv programming and the competitive pricing, satellite tv is a good alternative to cable tv. So, the next time you need television programming, consider satellite tv. The choice of programming is more flexible, the cost is comparable, and the installation is so easy, you might even be able to do it yourself.
