Visiting The San Francisco Zoo

The San Francisco zoo is a popular destination point for many visitors to the bay area. The San Francisco zoo is northern California' largest zoo, and its picturesque location against the backdrop of the Pacific Ocean is something that should not be missed. This urban zoo is the home of over 250 different animal species in their recreated natural habitats. Recently, the San Francisco zoo has begun a project to turn it into a conservation zoo that will help build visitors' respect for the wildlife it contains. When visiting the San Francisco zoo, you should always remember not to feed the animals. Just like with any other zoo, most of the animals are on specialized diets that help them get all of the nutrients they need. There is a petting zoo, however, located in the Family Farm area of the Children's Zoo, and the animals inside can be fed by visitors. Another thing to consider is that you should respect the animals you are observing. Do not tease them or yell at them, as they deserve as much respect as visitors do. There are no pets allowed in the San Francisco zoo, except for in the children's zoo. Also, no bicycles or skateboards are allowed within the zoo's gates. Photography, however, is allowed and is actually encouraged as long as you are behind the barriers of the animal displays. The zoo can be entered through one of three entrances, the east, north and south bay gates. Admission fees vary according to patron age, but San Francisco resident adults must pay eight dollars in admission, where as non-San Francisco residents must pay eleven dollars. Visiting the San Francisco zoo is a great way to spend an afternoon whether you live in San Francisco or you are visiting for a few days. The zoo offers a fun and educational experience to all of its visitors no matter what ages they are.
