University Of Miami - Then And Now

The University of Miami is one of the most fabulous schools in Southern Florida. Founded in 1925 this school of higher learning has evolved through time into one of the great universities. The University of Miami has grown to become one of the largest private research universities in the southeastern United States. The University of Miami was chartered in 1925 by a group of citizens who felt their community could benefit from the gift of a higher education. These founders agreed their college bound citizens deserved the chance to achieve great things in the comfort of their south Florida homeland. In the fall of 1926 during the collapse of a land boom that had engulfed south Florida the original 560 students enrolled in the first classes offered at the University of Miami. Through the history of the University of Miami there have been additions and changes that benefited both the students enrolled and the community in which it was established. Each person who served as president created new aspects of college life that enriched the University of Miami in multiple ways. Each year brought new challenges for students and faculty to embrace and overcome. In 2001 celebrated Miami Universities fifth and current president, Donna E. Shalala. Today the University of Miami has earned credit by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and twenty-one other accrediting agencies. There is a long list of achievements that belong to the school as a whole and there are also individual achievements met each day by everyone involved in the growth and well being of the University of Miami. The University of Miami heralds awesome academics, sports and community support. They have a community of alumni with tendrils reaching every part of the world. There are multi-cultural social activities available year round also. The University of Miami also has many different sports related events.
